As a coach…
I’m an electrical engineer by trade, and started coaching triathletes in 2008. Through the years, I’ve created an adaptive software platform for training athletes. The software platform creates a personalized training plan for each athlete based on their ability and schedule. The software platform adjusts future workouts based on how training is going. If an athlete misses workouts, exceeds pace/power targets, adds/removes races, etc., the software platform adjusts to optimize fitness and avoid injury.
Coaching is NOT just about the workouts (my software does that). I follow my athletes’ lives, attend their races, push them to new levels, and watch them smile as they achieve seemingly impossible goals.
As an athlete…
I was a competitive swimmer for over 10 years, which includes 2 years at the University of Pittsburgh and University of Florida. After an extended post-college break, I decided to train for a sprint triathlon (2006). I was 40lbs overweight, and incapable of running a mile. However, after my first race, I was instantly hooked, and have been racing ever since.
After two years of racing, I endeavored to qualify for the 70.3 World Championships. Although it took some time to understand proper 70.3 training and racing, I qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2009. It was an amazing experience! My next challenge was to race IMTX (2011). At IMTX 2011, my race didn’t go as planned (10:27), but it was fun. At IMTX 2014, I executed my race plan, and achieved a personal best (9:55!). I’ve had good races and bad, and they have made me the coach that I am today.
